Election Coverage Showcases New Broadcast Technology
(Undated) -- Election coverage of the 2008 election has been the launchpad for some new broadcasting technology courtesy of CNN. The network used a hologram to project the image of one of its reporters onto the CNN election night set in Washington. Anchor Wolf Blitzer looked in the direction of the hologram of reporter Jessica Yellin who was reporting from Grant Park in Chicago. To viewers, it appeared as if she was standing near Blitzer when in fact, she was not in the room at all. Yellin explained she was inside a tent in Chicago in Grant Park with 35 high definition cameras shooting images of her. She says the cameras in Chicago "communicate" with cameras in Washington to result in the image that viewers saw on the CNN set. The 35 cameras took images of her from a variety of angles.
