Other Uses for Household Items

On Thursday Show, Celebrity Lifestyle Expert had some different ideas for everyday items we use around the house.

For more information visit www.sissybiggers.com

Here is a list of some of her ideas

WD-40:
Original Purpose: Greasing a squeaky wheel.
Aha! Use: Removing crayon from almost any surface: plastic, metal, TV screens, freshly painted walls. Just apply a small amount and rub away with a clean cloth.

Clothespin:
Original Purpose: Keeping linens high and dry
Aha! Use: Holding a nail in place when you hang a picture. Clamp the nail in the clothespin and position it where you want the picture to hang. Steady the pin with your fingers while you tap the nail into the wall.

Velcro:
Original Purpose: Giving you closure
Aha! Use: Preventing pet bowls from skidding across the floor. Cut a small strip of Velcro and attach one half of it to the floor and the other half to the bottom of the food bowl; do the same for the water bowl.

Keep your earrings together with buttons

Tired of rummaging through your jewelry box to only find one of your favorite earrings? Keep them easily paired by looping them through button holes. Not only does this work on hanging earrings and studs, but it’s an easy way to keep your earrings stored when traveling.

Wine bottles can make your boots stand upright

Make use of those leftover wine bottles by cleaning them out and placing them into your boots to keep their shape. The average wine bottle works in almost every boot, and they won't stretch them out like some shoe shapers can.

Deodorize Food Containers with Newspaper
Original Purpose: Information source.
Aha! Use: Food-container deodorizer. Stuff a balled-up piece of newspaper into a plastic container, seal it, and let sit overnight. By morning the paper will have absorbed lingering food smells.

Olive Oil

- Use a dab of olive oil on a paper towel to freshen up household plant leaves. Just gently wipe on, and you're done! Remember, a little oil goes a long way.

Lemons

- Rubbing quartered lemons on a cutting board or countertop and rinsing with water will remove garlic, onion, or fish smells. It will also remove stains from cutting berries.

- Place a few drops of lemon juice in your vacuum cleaner bag each time you change it. The scent will radiate each time you vacuum there after.

Rice

- Place a few grains of dry rice into your salt shakers. This will prevent clumping and dryness.

- Fill a sandwich bag full of dry rice and store in your freezer. For bruises that require a cold pack, the cold rice works just as well as ice, but conforms to knees and elbows a lot better.

Salt

- Add ½ cup salt to a laundry load of blue jeans. Not only will they come out softer, but they will last much longer.

- Put a pinch of salt with the grounds in your coffee filter before making a pot. The salt will take the bitterness edge off, as well as enhance the flavor of the coffee.

- Remove discoloration from glassware by soaking it in a solution of one part salt to eight parts white vinegar.

- Pour a half a teaspoon of salt in the bottom of a vase of cut flowers. The salt will prevent the flowers from wilting and cause them to last much longer.
